Electronics and Campouts

Scouts don't need any electronic devices on campouts, including electronic games, music players, cell phones, tablets or computers.  These devices will just distract you from the amazing world around you.  Don't bring them.  The Scoutmaster will just confiscate them, and he might forget to return them.

Cameras are allowed and encouraged, and will be used appropriately.  In fact, the Troop Historian should make an effort to document every Scouting outing.  GPS are sometimes useful on camping expeditions, although a map and compass is almost always preferred.

Parents know that the Scout Leaders will always have cell phones for emergency contacts, and the numbers are on the portion of the permission slips that they keep.

"But it's such a long drive," whined Johny Newscout as he boarded the vehicle for his first campout.  Little did he realize that it was actually fun to spend time with, and talk to his fellow Scouts.  He didn't even miss having DVDs playing in the car.  (And they won't be.)  Johny later learned that older and wiser Scouts actually worked on Merit Badges on long drives to distant camps.
