Tents

The Troop provides tents for all Scouts on campouts.  Our primary tent is the Eurika Timberline.  These legendary A-Frame tents are sturdy and reliable, and a mainstay for many Scout Troops.

Scouts pitch tents at the beginning of each outing, sometimes in the dark, and once in a while in the rain.  Properly staked, with a ground cloth underneath, the tents resist rain and wind.  We even have techniques for pitching the timberlines in freezing weather, when driving stakes is impossible.

The most frequent problem with tents are the zippers, which are sometimes damaged by Scouts who neglect to unzip the door all the way before climbing in or out.  Zippers and tent poles can usually be repaired, so that tents can be expected to last about five years.  If a tent gets mildew or mold, it is ruined.  For this reason, tents are sent home with Scouts after every campout, to be dried and re-packed at home.  It is the Scout's responsibility to take care of the tent and return it at the next Troop meeting.
