Web Site Purpose and Guidelines

Written by Bob Techentin on . Posted in Policies

A Troop web site can be a useful tool for sharing information, schedules, and ideas about the Scouting program and how it implements the mission of our chartering organization.

The web site can support the Youth Leadership apsect of Scouting by giving the Scouts access to and responsibility for maintaining the information on the site.  The web site must also conform to safe scouting guidelines as defined by National and District policies and good old common sense.

These web site guidelines have been approved by troop the Troop Committee.  They are based on National and Council guidelines.

  • Web site content will include a calendar, plans, copies of newsletters and
pictures of things we have done
  • The web site is to be maintained by the Scouts
  • Historian will document activities with pictures
  • Scribe will record meeting minutes and schedule
  • Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters will monitor content
  • Patrols may be listed, but not individual Scout names
  • Troop adult leader names may be listed by Mr./Mrs. last name
  • Pictures of Scouts and Scouting activies are greatly encouraged, but youth names will never be associated with a photograph
  • The only Troop contact information will be Scoutmaster's email and phone number
  • The web site will conform to policies of the Boy Scouts of America and the Gamehaven Council
  • Scouts will submit content and an adult advisor will edit/approve/publish the updates
  • The site will include a link to the Gamehaven Council web site
