Notes from Leader Roundtable, March 5, 2015

Dr. Jeffrey Winters is our new District Chair.  He invited all leaders and parents to a District meeting at the Scout office on March 12, 7pm.  There will also be a Council "share the vision" meeting on March 24, which requires RSVP.

The District Dinner will be April 16.  This is an event to thank volunteer leaders and pass out some awards.  Chartering organization reps (in our case the Grand Knight) have received invitations and ballots to vote for Dr. Winters.

March for Millions fundraiser has already exhausted the million dollar matching fund.  Thanks to everyone who participated.  Gamehaven raised $5,300 for the new dining hall and $3,600 for FOS (to be matched).

To meet a prerquisite for the Medicine Merit Badge, Dr. Winters is hosting tours of the Blood Donation Center on March 12, 4-7pm.  Any Scout or Scouter who shows up in class A uniform will get a tour, and can complete the prerequisite of either donating blood (if they're old enough) or encouraging someone else to do so.

Possibilities wants to do a pinewood derby for their clients.  They are looking for volunteers to help at client locations 1-2 mornings or afternoons over spring break to build cars, and then have a derby.  Each Scout would need to bring an adult.  (And tools)

The spring popcorn sale has started.  The new product is Ghost Pepper popcorn.  Rumored to be dangerous.

Spring camporee flyers are in the Troop folders.  Second Minnesota battery will be coming out.  Movies on the barn.  Fun for all.

There will be Youth Protection training (3 times) and Leader Specific Training on March 21 (Merit Badge Fair day).  Baloo training on May 2, required for any Cub Scout pack that wants to go camping.

Coyote Creek is starting a new Venture Crew.

There are many flyers on high adventure bases and family programs at the Philmont training center.

Next roundtable will be April 9 (the second Thursday).

Boy Scout Program

Tim Alexander, half of the advancement committee leadership, explained that they are starting a new process for submitting Eagle applications.  They had been asking for an electronic copy, which is routed to the review board members.  However it was challenging for Scouts to get the signature pages incorporated with the electronic documents.  So they are now going to send a large submission envelope with a checklist on the front, and ask for one scanner-ready of the documentation.  (No staples, single sided.)  They will then scan the material for the board.

The Scout program was all about do-it-yourself camping gadgets.  It covered trailers, stoves of all kinds, walking sticks, tyvek camp gear, hammocks, dove-tail notched lash-free pioneering projects, fire starters, duffle bags, camp gadgets for igloo coolers and managing toasting forks.

Next month's program will be about planning Eagle projects.  May will cover how to help the SPL run a PLC.
