Zero Hero Award

Written by Bob Techentin on . Posted in Camping

Zero Hero is an Award (Patch) that is given to the Scouts that spend 24 hours outside and the temperature drops below Zero Fahrenheit.

In 24 hours, outside, Scouts must

  • Setup tent or dig a snow cave or build a survival shelter
  • Cook and eat three meals (warm meal in tummy means warm body for sleeping)
  • Sleep in tent / cave / shelter
  • Temperature goes below Zero Fahrenheit

Earning the Zero Hero patch is a true physical challenge, and may not be attempted by first-year Scouts.  However, overcoming adversity and earning the award is a significant accomplishment.
